FAQS
Wahid Cooperative Enterprises is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing off-grid, sustainable housing and career development for low-income families, individuals with disabilities, and seniors. We offer a one-year residency in tiny homes where families receive the support they need to build financial independence, develop essential skills, and create a stable future.
Families accepted into Wahid’s community live on the land in tiny homes for one year while following structured programs that promote self-sufficiency and long-term success. Residents must participate in budgeting, saving, parenting, and family services to ensure a strong foundation for their future.
Wahid offers two programs based on each family’s needs:
Family Career Development Program – For families with working parents, Wahid provides child care, schooling, and hands-on career development for children, including farming, cooking, computer skills, and other essential trades.
Parent Career Development Program – For parents without jobs, Wahid provides on-site career training and employment in fields like teaching, culinary arts, agriculture, construction, and librarianship. Parents gain hands-on experience while contributing to the community through initiatives like our Farmers Market and sustainable projects.
By the end of the year, families leave Wahid with new skills, financial stability, and a strong support system to help them succeed beyond their time in the program.
Off-Grid, Sustainable Living – Unlike traditional housing programs, Wahid provides tiny homes in a self-sustaining, off-grid community, creating a stable, eco-friendly environment for families in need.
Whole-Family Support System – We don’t just house families—we empower them with career training, education, and financial skills to help them break the cycle of poverty.
Hands-On Career Development – Parents and children gain real-world experience in agriculture, culinary arts, construction, teaching, and more, ensuring long-term stability beyond their time at Wahid.
Farmers Market & Business Growth – Our on-site Farmers Market and community businesses provide work opportunities and entrepreneurial skills, allowing families to generate income while contributing to their community.
Inclusive & Accessible – Wahid welcomes low-income families, single parents, individuals with disabilities, and seniors, offering personalized support tailored to each household’s unique needs.
A Path to Independence – Families leave Wahid with stable employment, financial literacy, and life skills that set them up for success, rather than relying on temporary assistance.
At Wahid, we don’t just provide shelter—we build futures, create opportunities, and empower families to thrive beyond the program.
